Skoda Fabia vRS news - Geneva show: Skoda Fabia VRS - 2010
If you're after a hot supermini from the Volkswagen Group, now is a good time to exist. If the Seat Ibiza Cupra or VW Polo GTI don't take your fancy, how about the Skoda Fabia vRS?
Unlike the last-gen Fabia vRS, it ain't a diesel. Sporting the same 1.4-litre turbo- and supercharged petrol engine as the Ibiza and Cupra, it's good for 178bhp and a 0-60mph time of 7.3 seconds. The Fabia vRS gets a seven-speed DSG ‘box as standard, and will manage 44.1mpg.
So why would you take one over the Polo or Ibiza? For starters, the vRS manages to look substantially different to the standard Fabia. It gets new bumpers, a rear diffuser, twin exhausts and a rather natty set of alloys, all of which combine to create a tidy-looking little hot hatch.
Second - and here's the one we really like - Skoda has confirmed that it will produce an estate version of the Fabia vRS. How cool is that?
And last, it should be well-priced. Expect to pay around £16,000 when the Fabia vRS goes on sale in the UK in June.
