This is Renault's shiny new Scenic

Renault's littlest people carrier gets SUV cues and pimped alloys. Like it?

Published: 23 Feb 2016

Is Renault cool again? Following the Twingo, Captur and Kadjar comes this, the new Scenic.

It takes unashamed styling cues from across the range, but, to our eyes at least, looks rather ace while it does so.

Much like the larger Espace - which we no longer get in Britain - it has taken a peek at the SUV rulebook in order to keep the people carrier relevant. So there’s more ground clearance, shorter overhangs and a wider stance, to make its aesthetic more about being stylish than sensible. Want proof? It comes with 20-inch alloy wheels. A Megane Trophy-R rides on 19s...

All the tech specs will be revealed at the Geneva motor show, where the Scenic will make its first appearance. But expect a range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines shared with the latest Megane, with a hybrid further down the line.

You can also expect Renault’s large, touchscreen infotainment system and plenty of safety-minded technology, alongside the folding seats and picnic tables that have been a Scenic staple for 20 years now.

If it drives anything like the Megane, it should be a slick thing. After a few years in the wilderness - which saw an underperforming UK range slashed in half - you could argue Renault doesn’t have a duff car in its range.

Would you pick this over the fashionable crossover set?
