This is the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Coupe-ish SUV-looking thing to hit UK roads next year
Remember when Mitsubishi was synonymous with four-wheel-drive, giant-killing saloons? Well, this isn’t that.
This is, as you might have surmised, another SUV that kind of looks coupe-ish, and will find its way on to UK roads by early 2018. So what will you get from your Eclipse Cross, should you choose to buy one? Well, there’s the looks, which are entirely subjective and all that, but we’d say it's probably what you'd expect from a Mitsubishi SUV. You also get LED lights, and a new type of red paint that’s apparently more red than any Mitsubishi that’s come before it. Mop your brow now, while you still have a chance.
There’s a new 1.5-litre direct-injected petrol turbo engine on offer, as well as a 2.2-litre diesel. Official outputs aren’t available yet, but the 2.2 diesel makes 148bhp and 280lb ft in the Mitsubishi Outlander, so we’d be expecting similar specs. The petrol power will be fed through a CVT with eight predefined steps, while the diesel uses a conventional eight-speed auto. Both will distribute however much power the Eclipse Cross ends up making via an all-wheel-drive system.
Inside, there are innovative features like a dashboard that’s “shaped using horizontal lines”, which must be some kind of first, as well as a head-up display and various methods of integrating your telephone.
So, is this the kind of thing that’ll end up in your driveway? Go on, tell us.
