Gallery: the tuners of the Geneva Motor Show

Time for the modified cars to step up: here are Genéve’s alternative stars

  • A motor show happened in Geneva this week, called the Geneva Motor Show. You may have heard about it.

Principally because after all the waiting, we finally got to see the successor to the most famous speed machine of recent times: the Bugatti Chiron. Headline figures of 1,479bhp and a 261mph top speed secure it firmly in the pantheon of properly fast stuff, but it’s the detail – and potential – that really amazes.

But outside of the Big Stuff – like Lambo’s Centenario, Aston Martin’s lovely new DB11 and the Porsche 911 R which promises much motoring excellence – there was more.

Yes, the tuning fraternity was out in force again, and this year – as in many other years – provided a huge chunk of stuff that you really need to see. There were wings, many colours and huge, kerbable alloy wheels.

Be honest, it’s what you want to see, right? Click forth, brave TopGear.commer...

  • ABT RS6-R

Yep, Audi’s twin-turbo behemoth was clearly underpowered, so ABT turned it up to 730bhp and gave it a top speed of 199mph. There is much carbon, a new bodykit, adjustable suspension and many exhausts.

  • ABT VW van

Not content with whipping out a modified RS6, the German tuner – celebrating its 120th anniversary – also showcased a modified VW van. There's slightly more power from the 2.0-litre diesel, giving it 235bhp, while the van also gets a new bodykit, ABT suspension and big wheels.

  • ABT ‘QS7’

ABT again. Plus suspension, plus wide body, plus more power (410bhp), plus big, kerbable wheels. This, or Audi’s own SQ7?

  • DMC Huracán

Actually, this one doesn’t look half bad. It’s a Huracán, and therefore is already rather cool. Then comes a huge front splitter and diffuser, side skirts, and the all-important rear wing.

  • Techart ‘Grand GT’ Porsche Panamera Turbo S

It’s purple, and also a little faster, thanks to a 50bhp increase through a new exhaust system and Techart’s ‘power kit’. So 611bhp in total. There’s a new bodykit too, and monster 22in wheels. Also, you might have noticed it’s purple.

  • Techart ‘Magnum Sport’ Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

A world premiere for Geneva, we’re told. This Turbo S Cayenne receives carbon fibre body kit panels, a roof spoiler, gloss black detailing, 22in wheels with red brake calipers, and a Techart exhaust system.

There’s lots going on inside, too, from the leather treatment to a new steering wheel and aluminium pedals. Bit of a shrinking violet, no?

  • Techart Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

Um, are we alone in thinking this isn’t half bad? No? OK fine. This 4WD Carrera gets an increase of 50bhp – for a total of 444bhp – along with more torque, too. A complement of Techart styling additions include a carbon front splitter, side skirts, a special rear spoiler and that rear diffuser with four central exhaust pipes.

  • Brabus G500

This Brabus-tuned Benz gets a new ECU for the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to produce 493bhp and 523lb ft of torque. 0-62mph is said to take just 5.7s, while it will top out – where applicable of course – at 137mph.

There are underbody lights, specially designed LEDs for the front, and naked carbon elements.

  • Brabus Tesla

Interestingly, Brabus didn’t add any more power to the Tesla Model S, but did add much carbon fibre and interior detailing.

    Read more about it here.

  • Kahn Vengeance

A DB9-based supercar, by which we mean only the cant rails and bootlid carry over. Oh, and the rear glass. The rest of the bodywork is new. Just five have been built, all utilizing the DB9’s 510bhp 5.9-litre V12. Yours for £360k.

  • Kahn Flying Huntsman

What’s more unique than a Mercedes 6x6? One modified by Kahn. Welcome then, to the Kahn Flying Huntsman.

  • Startech ‘Widebody’ Range Rover Sport

Startech once built a Range Rover pickup, and it was possibly one of the greatest modified cars ever. This then, feels a little tame in comparison. It’s a ‘Widebody’ version of the RRS, and comes with a performance upgrade that makes the V6 diesel sound like a V8. Yes, really.

Then there are the forged wheels, new bumpers, a stainless steel exhaust, lots of carbon detailing and a matt gold roof.

  • Mansory Mercedes-AMG GT S

720bhp. That’s the tweaked output of Mansory’s take on the AMG GT S. It comes thanks to bigger turbos, a new exhaust and the all-important air filter. 0-62mph then, takes just 3.4secs, while top speed now sits at 205mph.

You’ll also spot the Mansory is wider, slightly lower, and features some wing and many vents.

  • Mansory Wraith ‘Palm 999 Edition’

Just nine will be built, using a body kit made from carbon fibre. The badges, meanwhile, are actually made from gold, but Mansory will gold-plate pretty much anything you want.

The Wraith’s 6.6-litre V12 engine hasn’t gone unaltered, either. Power is up from 623bhp to 730bhp, cutting the 0-62mph time by a fifth of a second to 4.4secs. Mansory’s done away with the 155mph limiter, too, for a 186mph top-end.

  • Mansory Tesla Model S

Another tuner, another Tesla. Nothing’s been done to the drivetrain, but bits of the chassis have been built from carbon, there’s some new aero, and a leather interior tanned with olive-leaf extract. Naturally.

  • Mansory Bentley Flying Spur

‘Elegant refinement’ is the catchphrase here. Apparently. The Bentley gets fancy new wheels (in, um, gold), lots of carbon fibre, a bit more power – 735bhp – and a 0-62mph time of 4.0secs. Also, a two-tone paintjob. Including gold.

  • Mansory Mercedes-AMG GLE63

Besides the, erm, ‘bold’ bodykit, 23in alloys and reupholstered interior, Mansory has given this GLE a fairly substantial power upgrade. Even by the standards of this gallery. That's because it has 828bhp and 848lb ft of torque. Enough said.

  • Mansory 4XX Siracusa

Formerly a Ferrari 488 GTB – a car that, trust us, needs no improving – the Siracusa is certainly dramatic. Mansory used carbon extensively in construction of the new body, which it claims generates more downforce and therefore more grip than the standard car. Besides the body, there’s a bit more power (790bhp) for marginal gains in acceleration and top speed (2.9secs to 62mph, 212mph).

  • Mansory Mercedes-AMG S63 Coupe

With the same V8 engine (and therefore power output) of the GLE of a few slides back, this S takes just 3.5secs to hit 62mph. Big news is the body, though, which has been widened by some 50mm through the use of much carbon. Inside? Expect an array of quilted leathers and gaudy trim.

  • AC Schnitzer ACL2

Believe it or not, this green thing used to be an M235i. Only it isn’t anymore. The engine was junked in favour of the 3.0-litre turbo six from the M4, here making 562bhp. The ACL2 also has M4 axles, and a load of suspension trickery honed at the Nurburgring. Top speed? 205mph.

  • Mansory Gronos

This is the Gronos (so named for the noise people make when they first see it, possibly), a Merc G-Class with carbon fibre spoilers aplenty, 22in wheels and that big 828bhp V8. The headlights and arches are a bit much, but the roof-mounted spotlights are very us.
