The 1,287bhp Ren RS single-seater will do 0-62mph in 3s

First pics of Techrules’ newest track car revealed

Published: 05 Mar 2018

This is Techrules II: Judgement Day. The Chinese company has announced a follow-up to its 2017 Geneva show car. The newcomer is dubbed the Ren RS: a single-seat track-only racer that heralds a world of dizzying numbers and speed for this year’s Geneva show.

Let us digest some of these numbers. There are two options: a Ren RS with four electric motors (858bhp, 1,150lb ft of torque), or a Ren RS with six electric motors. We will focus on the latter because that’s the most powerful one.

With two electric motors on the front axle, and four on the back, the lightweight, single-seat supercar delivers 1,287bhp and 1,725lb ft of torque. That is a lot. Techrules claims it’ll do 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds flat. That is not a lot. Finally, Techrules claims it will top out at 205mph.

As with the company’s previous product, this Ren RS utilises what Techrules calls its Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle powertrain. Or, rather excellently, ‘TREV’, for short. Trev. A futuristic, electric supercar that has a Trev in the middle. Wonderful.

Basically, it uses a turbine to drive a generator which can quickly recharge the 28kWh battery. When the battery is done, the turbine is used to move the Ren RS.

Dry, you’re looking at a rather hefty kerbweight of 1,854kg, though it does utilise a carbon fibre monocoque and aluminium chassis, with double wishbones all round. There are monster 380mm/355mm carbon ceramic discs front and rear, 21in wheels, and a body designed by Fabrizio and Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Matthew Jin is the chief technical officer of Techrules, and had this to say: “The unique modular design of the Ren chassis and powertrain has enabled us to create a perfectly engineered high-performance track car and demonstrate our TREV technology in the most efficient way.”

You can see the thing for yourself at Geneva. Reckon Trev’s got some legs? Certainly looks interesting...
