Woah, this £2,294 sim racing wheel is an exact copy of the Mercedes F1 wheel

Want your sim rig to look a little more like the cockpit of Lewis Hamilton’s W15? You’re in luck

Published: 19 Jul 2024

Sim racing is a big old business these days. You’ve no doubt seen some of the massive prize pots on offer in different tournaments, and you’ll probably have noticed that all of the Formula 1 teams have their own esports team.

But what if you’ve won one of those mega tournaments and want to splash a bit of cash? This might just be the perfect thing. It’s the officially licensed ‘Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Sim Racing Steering Wheel’. Deep breath for that full name.

The result of a collaboration between Merc’s F1 team and Sim-Lab, this is an almost exact replica of the steering wheels used by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in their 2024 W15. Oh, and it’s not cheap.

It’ll set you back £2,294, but then it is handmade from carbon fibre (weighing just 1,240 grams) and features no fewer than 14 buttons and nine different rotary switches. They really are busy while driving F1 cars, aren’t they?

You also get a 4.3in LCD screen front and centre for all of your race data, and there are rubber silicone grips for maximum comfort. Heck, there’s even the magic buttons, a mono shifter paddle and an adjustable single throw clutch paddle.

Sim-Lab says this thing was designed with the “sole purpose of being the best sim racing steering wheel on the market” and that it used CAD data to almost perfectly recreate the real thing. For your cash you also get two separate sticker sets so that you can pick between aping Russell or Hamilton.

Pretty impressive, although we’d have to admit that if we were looking to blow similar money on a Mercedes-branded steering wheel, we’d probably try and haggle the price down on this. That’d mean getting a wheel with a free 5.8-litre V12 engine and an S600 L thrown in for good measure.
