Playing Gran Turismo 7 in PSVR 2 is suddenly a lot more affordable
Big price cuts on Sony’s VR hardware means it’s easier than ever to immerse yourself in Polyphony’s racer
Welcome to topsy-turvy land, where it’s raining constantly in July, where Max Verstappen is suddenly beatable and where the price of something has actually decreased in the year 2024. Let’s not even try to understand the vagaries of why Sony’s PSVR 2 headsets have just been cut in price down to £349 at all the major retailers in the UK - let’s just enjoy playing Gran Turismo 7 in VR.
Sellers including Amazon, Currys and Argos have the hardware available for £349 or lower, around £180 down from its original retail price.
No official announcement has been made by Sony relating to the price cut, but it likely has something to do with the headset gaining PC functionality very soon (7 August). Sony’s making a big play for some serious VR audience share, it seems.
As long as your PC meets the requirements mentioned on this PS Blog post, you can plug the headset directly into your desktop machine and use it with VR-compatible games in your Steam library.
Of course, VR’s potential expands further than simply sitting in the living room and pretending to drive a dangerously modded Mitsubishi FTO around the Nordschleife - it’s just that Gran Turismo 7 does a particularly great job of using VR’s immersive properties. Suddenly rival cars feel massive as they pull up alongside you in a braking zone, and making contact with them feels that bit riskier.
The library of PSVR 2-compatible games on PS5 includes plenty of other highlights though. Resident Evil 7, Sniper Elite VR, Star Wars: Squadrons, No Man’s Sky and Beat Saber are just a few highlights. And that’s before we even get to PC, where the likes of Assetto Corsa Competizione’s VR mode awaits…
