Earlier this week, America’s Motor City held its annual cars-spinning-on-plinths convention. Known colloquially as the Detroit Motor Show, it kicked off a new year of car unveilings.
There was quite a haul, too. But don’t worry if you missed all the action at the beginning of the week. We’ve rounded up all the notable cars from the show into one handy gallery so you can get back up to speed in a jiffy.

We’re quite excited by the new Ford Raptor. Purists may be disappointed that it has ditched the outgoing car’s burbling 6.2-litre V8, but the new smaller, 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine is lighter and more powerful. We’re not told exactly how many horsepowers it has, only that it’ll have more than the last car’s 411bhp and 434lb ft of torque.
For Detroit, the upcoming Raptor has grown a pair of doors to form the SuperCrew. It’s grown 12-inches compared to the normal Raptor to allow more humans inside.
Lighter, more powerful, more geary (it now has a 10-speed ‘box) and more practical. Now we really can’t wait to try it.

Not since the LF-A have we been this excited about a Lexus. It’s called the LC 500, and it’s essentially the road-going format of the LF-LC Concept of 2012. And it is good.
Audi H-tron
Watch out BMW X6, this is Audi’s first major foray into the world of hydrogen powered cars – a 282bhp, zero emission crossover. It’s called the H-tron Quattro Concept, and a production version could be with us by the end of the decade.
Infiniti Q60
Could this finally be the Infiniti to properly steal sales from BMW and Mercedes? Given how good it looks, we’re inclined to say ‘maybe’. Meet the Infiniti Q60, a rather pert 400bhp rival for the 4-Series and C-Class coupe.
Buick Avista
The Buick Avista is a swoopy two-door 2+2 with the engine up front and driving the rear wheels. The motor is a ‘concept’ 3.0-litre V6 with twin turbos and 400bhp, backed up by an 8-speed auto. You have to admit, the whole thing looks really good.

Kia’s Telluride Concept is a full-sized, seven seat SUV with more than a hint of Volvo XC90 in the bluff lines. With three rows of seats, and big, solid styling, it sits in an as-yet untapped - for Kia, at least - luxury SUV niche.
An all-electric 911 is on the cards
While on the show floor, Erhard Mössle, director for the 911 Turbo line, dropped a ruddy great hint that an all-electric two-door coupe is on the planning board.
It would likely be a spin-off from the four-door Mission E, a car already confirmed for production by the end of the decade.
“The Mission E could lead to a future when we need more electric cars to meet our regulations. So, you can imagine a Mission E with two-doors – the car looks great and there could be potential for a sports car,” Mössle told TG. “Whether it’s called a 911 or not is another discussion.”

Audi didn’t just reveal the H-tron concept at Detroit, as it also revealed the new A4 allroad. It’s got 34mm of extra ground clearance and is 90kg lighter.
Ford’s carbon engine
We’ve seen carbon-fibre body panels, tubs and even wheels – now meet the carbon-fibre engine.
VW Tiguan GTE
Meet the Tiguan GTE Active Concept. Like the Passat and Golf GTE production cars, it marries a 148bhp 1.4-litre TSI engine with two electric motors. Here, though, it yields a higher total output of 222bhp, which is roughly the same as a Golf GTI. Plus, most importantly, it has knobbly tyres.
Mercedes E-Class
The new Merc E-Class was the first of a flurry of Benzos that we saw with our own actual eyes for the first time. As you can see, it looks just like an S-Class, but smaller. Which incidentally looks just like a C-Class. It’s also full of many, many technologies.
Mercedes SLC 43
Goodbye, SLK 55 AMG. Hello, 362bhp Merc-AMG SLC 43. Gone is the big ol’ V8 as the new SLC 43 employs a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 (not, as the name might suggest, a 4.3-litre) making 362bhp at 5500rpm, and a hefty 384lb ft of torque from just 2000rpm. It’s all sent to the rear wheels through Merc’s nine-speed auto ‘box. 0-62mph is seen off in 4.7 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 155mph.
Porsche 911 Turbo S
The 911 Turbo is already one of the fastest-moving land-based objects on earth. But that hasn’t stopped Porsche adding yet more power. The engine is the same basic 3.8-litre twin-turbo lump as before, but power is up by 20bhp across the board. That means 533bhp in the Turbo and 572bhp in the Turbo S, a 0-62mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 205mph – improvements of 0.2 seconds and 7mph respectively.
