This is a full-size Lego Ford

Ignore the conceit your eyes are conjuring on your synapses: this is not a real Ford Explorer.

No, Internet, this is a replica Explorer, built using 380,000 bricks by 22 of Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant workers. These workers laboured for around 2,500 hours - presumably not in one go - to build this 1200kg behemoth, which will find a home at the new Legoland park in Florida.

Supporting the knobbly shell is a 356kg interior aluminium base with a metal support, and now completed, the full size replica will be loaded onto a trailer with transparent sides en route to Florida, to allow other road users to bask in its brick-based magnificence.

For non-Americans, the real, four-wheel-drive Explorer is a full-size seven seat SUV. This Lego version is not four-wheel-drive, nor can it seat seven. And while the real version gets a V6, Ford tells us this one is "powered by imagination". OK, we imagine a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 from the old GT...
