Watch Mick Schumacher drive his dad’s old F1 car

Last weekend’s Tuscan GP was a bit chaotic, but Lewis Hamilton nonetheless held on to win his 6th race so far this season, extending his lead in the Drivers’ Championship to a massive 55 points over teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Hamilton is now just one win away from equalling Michael Schumacher’s all-time record. The German won 91 races in his F1 career, many of them en-route to the five World Championships he won with Ferrari. The Scuderia couldn’t let its 1,000th Grand Prix pass without paying tribute to Michael’s success, so it wheeled out the title-winning F2004 for Schumacher’s son Mick to pedal around Mugello.

Michael won his seventh and final World Championship in 2004 when Mick was only five-years old. Now 21, Mick is leading the Formula 2 Championship with Prema Racing. And given another chance to drive his dad’s old car (he had a go at Hockenheim last year), he didn’t hang about. The F2004 is one of the most dominant cars in the history of Formula 1, winning 13 of the 18 races it entered in 2004.

And doesn’t it just sound tremendous? 2004 was the V10-era, when F1 cars were powered by nat-asp ten-cylinder motors making 1,000bhp (give or take) and over 18,000rpm. Click here to watch the video.
