Watch: 1959 F1 racer goes VERY off road at Goodwood Revival

We've often suspected that motor racing could learn a thing or two from golf, and today proves that point.

Why? Because, as this video proves, you really want to steer clear of the long grass, whether you're hacking round Pebble Beach, or piloting a classic Cooper-Maserati T51 during the third and final day of the Goodwood Revival on Sunday.

However, despite a significant excursion into what the plus-four brigade call 'the rough', driver Tom Bailey kept his foot pinned to emerge from the undergrowth. Clearly an believer in the 'it'll buff out' philosophy, Bailey continued to race for pride, albeit with bits of turf stuck to his Maserati's bodywork.

Pastor Maldonado would be proud.

The Richmond and Gordon Trophies race - which pits front-engined Maserati 250Fs against rear-enginged counterparts from Cooper and Lotus - showcases F1 cars from the 1954-1960 era. This year's event was eventually won by Rod Jolley, who claimed victory despite having to take evasive action en route to the chequered flag.
