This is Red Bull’s Vegas livery, and oh my what an entrance
RB19 arrives upside down in ticker tape ‘n’ pyrotechnic unveiling. Only in Vegas…
Four Vegas liveries? Four? That’s insane! And yet it’s where we are: Red Bull has revealed its one-off attire for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, joining Ferrari, Alpine and Williams in the special outfit club this weekend.
It’s the team’s third and final US spec effort, having adopted fan-designed liveries at the Miami GP and last month’s US GP at Circuit of the Americas.
This might be the best one yet: this time Red Bull has opened up all of the bodywork (and not just segments), and the pink and yellow neon strips stretching from front to back look quite funky set against the car’s bluey-purple background.
Conceived by Lindsay Palmer of Essex, UK, the design emerged after it was put to a vote among Red Bull’s fans. 24,000 ballots were cast, and this one came out on top.
Special mention too for the wheel covers - which Red Bull has had sponsored for the first time - which feature a poker chip design inspired by, er, PokerStars. Other ways to waste your money are available.
“I was so excited to be selected as the winner for Make Your Mark Las Vegas and was completely lost for words when I won,” said Palmer, who’s in Vegas to watch her design (in all probability) win this weekend’s race. “When thinking about what represents Vegas, the first thing that came to mind were the casinos and the bright lights, so I knew this had to be incorporated in my design.
“I wanted the style to emulate the cars whizzing past the neon lights and I had to make sure playing cards were added too. When I visited the factory, it was amazing seeing the livery come to life and the creation process. I am so excited to go to the race, I have never been to Vegas before and the fact that I can see my car come to life under the iconic Las Vegas lights will be an incredible experience. I cannot wait to see it on track!”
Oh, and as you can tell from the pictures the car made one heck of an entrance too, lowered upside down from the ceiling of a nightclub surrounded by ticker tape and pyrotechnics. Sure beats clumsily pulling a sheet off a static model…
