Check out McLaren’s Chrome livery for the British GP
McLaren rewinds the clock back to 2008 for this weekend’s race at Silverstone
It’s been a while since McLaren ran a chrome livery in F1: who could forget the iconic, shiny silver that was introduced in 2006 and eventually applied to Lewis Hamilton’s title-winning MP4-23 two years later?
Well, chrome is back! And not only of the metallic variety, but with a splash of the Google variety thrown in too. As one of McLaren’s major sponsors, the MCL60 has been decked out in the above one-off livery for this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
It’s the second special paint job McLaren has deployed this season, following its Triple Crown-inspired car at Monaco and Spain earlier this year. All part of the company’s 60th anniversary celebrations, you see.
Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will wear matching racing suits, while Lando has a special race helmet and boots to go with it.
“It’s no secret that racing fans love McLaren’s classic chrome livery,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown. “Google Chrome wanted to bring back elements of this iconic livery to celebrate our team’s history at the British Grand Prix, and we’re excited to be able to give our fans what they want.
“I’m sure this livery will bring back great memories for many of our fans, and I can’t wait to see it out on track at our home race.”
The timing couldn't be better for all involved, with aero upgrades making McLaren much more competitive at the Austrian GP.
Presumably anyone who sees Chrome's chrome out on track this weekend will find it has mysteriously become their default browser for no discernible reason?
