The Ford GT supercar will do at least 216mph

If you like old-school analogue dials by Smiths, VDO and Jaeger, do go ahead and look away now – the new GT is going fully digital. But don’t expect an Audi-esque satnav to feature anywhere in the mix; this is about speed, power and… er, speed.

Ah yes, speed. Up until now, Ford has only noted how the new GT supercar will manage north of 200mph. Today, it appears - at least according to these new dash pics - that it'll do 216mph. Is that the top speed? We don't know. But if so, it's more than the Porsche 918, and a little under LaFerrari and the McLaren P1. Still mighty fast, whichever way you peg it. 

About those modes: there are five to choose from – Normal, Wet, Sport, Track and V-Max - that display salient information for the chosen setting. For instance, V-Max has the GT’s velocity front and centre on top speed runs, and Track mode puts the gear in prime position, also detailing coolant temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure, as well as fuel reserve, measured in percentage points.  

Ford says that it’ll trickle down into their other cars – presumably, only pretty brisk ones – which will make for some pretty cool readouts on the facelifted Focus RS (just an idea, so don’t hold Ford to that).

Of course, only a select few will ever see the display in action in the GT. And the 250 customers selected for a 2017 model have something entirely more tactile to play with before they take delivery of their shiny new wheels. 

Online configurators are a bit old hat, it seems. Ford seems to think so, sending out a ‘GT Order Kit’ to its first run of customers. It’s full of swatches for the trim and exterior pieces and moulds of the body shell – in all the available colours – with interchangeable stripes to show off colour combinations. There are even miniature wheels to get a glimpse of how different wheels look with different shades of brake caliper.
