Vauxhall has unveiled a special edition Mokka, and it's the cheapest one available
Well, this is unusual. The new Mokka Griffin trim offers more kit for less money
Vauxhall has announced a new special edition Mokka. Yep, we can tell that you're excited already. But hang on, because this is a little bit different in that the new Griffin is actually the cheapest Mokka that you can buy. Imagine the scenes if Porsche suddenly did that with a special edition.
A Mokka Griffin – a nod to the Vauxhall’s bonnet icon, of course – is available with any powertrain usually offered on said Mokka, starting with the 134bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox for a rather reasonable £24,995. The new special then tops out with the Mokka Electric Griffin, capable of up to 249 miles of range from its 54kWh battery, and priced from £32,495.
Looks-wise, the Griffin trim has the black roof available on the GS and Ultimate grades, black wheels and rear privacy glass as standard. In the cabin, there's already a 10in touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus a suite of driver assists. Griffin upgrades mean both front seats are heated, as is the fake-cow steering wheel. Elsewhere, there are also electric heated door mirrors, an automatic anti-dazzle rear view mirror, and keyless start.
It’s a neat package with plenty of value-for-money appeal – especially in light of the recent VED changes. Obviously, EV drivers now need to stump up for road tax and in certain cases, the Expensive Car Supplement (that’s the extra tax applied to cars over £40,000).
Thusly, in a move that pushes electrons harder than a megawatt EV charge point, the Electric Griffin is being given all the usual incentives like money off a wallbox and/or energy credits, plus enough extra to warrant a £750 saving over the basic trim.
Clearly, tough times call for bold sales tactics, so in the case of the Mokka, Vauxhall has shrewdly broken out the chocolate sprinkles.
