The Vauxhall Corsa GSi returns!

Sound the moderately fast Vauxhall klaxon: the GSi nameplate will return to the boot of a Corsa after 25 years.

Yes, Vauxhall has today confirmed it intends to build a Corsa GSi. Hear that? That's the sound of all your 90s memories flooding back.

The new GSi will be a sort of sub-VXR; it'll feature the chassis and design elements from the current Corsa VXR, including its 18-inch alloy wheels, suspension and brakes. The GSi aesthetic is completed with Recaro racing seats, a leather sports steering wheel and aluminum pedals.

Vauxhall hasn't noted the engine on offer, but expect something beneath the VXR's range-topping 202bhp turbo 1.6 - maybe the 1.4-litre with 150bhp? Who knows. All we're told is the new GSi will be an "agile and purposeful driver’s car, but with all the space and efficiency of the regular model". We'll have more info later in the year when first orders begin.

Don’t forget, the original debuted in 1993 with the Corsa GSi 16 valve. That 90s supermarket car-park favourite had 105bhp and went from 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 121mph.
