This Sharp LDK+ minivan concept looks ace and has a massive telly
A non-car company just created the most comfortable-looking lounge on four wheels
Sharp is an electronics giant known for building decent tellies, sound systems, home appliances and the like. Sharp has now decided to venture into the world of cool minivans, by creating this rather cool all-electric minivan concept. Sure, why not.
Set to be showcased at its upcoming tech day and developed in collaboration with the Hon Hai Technology Group (part of Foxconn), the Sharp LDK+ is the epitome of a lounge-on-wheels. The sustainably designed rear seats rotate to face backwards, then when the door is closed, liquid crystal shutters on both sides of the vehicle also close to create a cosy, 'snuggle-friendly' space – complete with a table and bench seats, too.
Unsurprisingly, Sharp has put a massive 65in screen in the back - of course - because it wants the minivan to be seen as a practical extension of a living room. A place to... let kids leave Legos lying around all over the floor, or somewhere to send the other half when they insist on Super Saturday during your Gossip Girl marathon.
Elsewhere, AI-based programmes developed in-house control the air conditioning and lighting suite to give that candlelight ambience. Powering it all are storage batteries under the van and roof-mounted solar cells. Conceptually these energy resources connect to the house and offer bi-directional charging.
Can Sharp make a hole in the car industry with its new direction? We're keen to find out.
