This is a long-wheelbase Peugeot 508

It’s only for China, but would it make sense elsewhere too?

Published: 19 Nov 2018

This is a long-wheelbase Peugeot 508. Specifically, the Dongfeng Peugeot 508, built as it is exclusively for the Chinese market. Thus, this might be a bit of a bittersweet story for you.

Because the 508 is lovely. A longer version? Yeah, still lovely. We’re told the special 508 has had its wheelbase increased by 55mm, and a 100mm+ increase in its total length. Small numbers, but it makes a big difference.

Sadly, the frameless doors have had to go, in order to better facilitate rear headroom, but we’re told this 508L “is based on the connected car solution developed by Huawei”, and is the first car in the range to get the IoT OceanConnect platform. Um, cool.

Elsewhere it’s as before: a range of petrol, diesel and incoming PHEV drivetrains, Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, and a handsome bodyshell.

The new 508L, explains Peugeot boss Jean-Phillipe Imparato, “reflects our ambition to place technology and experience at the heart of our upmarket strategy for Chinese customers”.

What about other customers? Hands up who fancies an LWB Peugeot 508?
