A louder Ferrari, a stripy new Aston, and the return of the Focus RS. Your weekly news roundup

  • Revealed: Ferrari has made the California T louder and more fun

When do we get it? Sales for the new California T's new Handling Speciale pack add-on start after the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.

What we say: "The big news, naturally, involves the handling characteristics. The suspension is stiffer (by 16 per cent at the front axle, and 19 at the rear), while its trip-off-the-tongue magnetorheological dampers come with a new setup when you’ve engaged Sport, designed to quicken their responses and ensure better traction out of corners and on bumpy roads..."

  • Driven: the newly turbocharged Porsche 911 C4 and C4S

When do we get it? Now.

What we say: "Fast. Solid. Stable. Fast again. The new electro-hydraulically controlled Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive apparently allows for more precise metering of torque and traction between the front and rear axles, just as in the range-topping Turbo models, and it certainly seems to be able to find grip wherever it needs it..."

  • Driven: the new Porsche 911 Turbo that’s even more turbocharged

When do we get it? Also now.

What we say: "Go faster and both the Turbo or S remain one of the quickest point-to-point road cars on the planet. Click Sport Response, press throttle, overtake eight cars, relax. Or keep going and realise that because the Turbo remains a GT, everyday car, that it lulls you into travelling at speeds that you just didn’t think relevant, or actually possible..."

  • Driven: the all-conquering Ford Focus RS

When do we get it? Order it now - and join the list of many who already have - and you'll have it in a few months.

What we say: "It’s a magical sensation, because unlike powerful rear-wheel drive cars, where the rear has a penchant for overtaking the front, the RS’ front tyres aren’t merely a static rotation point, they use that 30 per cent of torque to keep things moving forward, letting you hang the tail out, fear-free..."

  • Revealed: TVR’s new sports car will use Gordon Murray’s carbon chassis

When do we get it? 2017. Hopefully. Possibly.

What we say: "The new TVR will be based around a carbon tub as per an Alfa 4C or McLaren, and will be mated to a carbon bodyshell. So, it ought to be light, and strong. The shell’s design also incorporates ground-effect aerodynamics – anyone familiar with Gordon Murray’s work knows he’s obsessed with having one part do two jobs, so the finished product is lighter and less expensive..."

  • Driven: Jaguar’s F-Pace, the F-Type inspired SUV

When do we get it? You can order one now for delivery in April.

What we say: "On the mixture of snow and ice at JLR’s north Sweden test centre, the electronic aids perform ably at their particular tasks, the F-Pace feeling secure and stress-free to drive in conditions that would be nasty and downright unsettling on actual roads. Over the wet grass and muddy fields that will present its most regular real-world obstacles, the F-Pace should be a breeze..."

  • Revealed: Mini’s new Clubman All4 is the perfect winter tool

When do we get it? Now.

What we say: "The All4 tech has filtered down from the Countryman, though it’s a new generation version with sharper dynamics in mind. Perfect for making sure you “point the front wheels in the direction you want them to go,” the very sage advice originating from the Institute of Advanced Motorists. Now we know where we’ve been going wrong..."

  • Driven: the brand new Kia Sportage GT

When do we get it? Later in 2016.

What we say: "Well, we’re not about to call it a mini-Macan, but it’s certainly a lot sharper than the outgoing Sportage. Body control is impressive enough that a couple of quick laps of the GP circuit didn’t turn into a tyre-howling mess and yet out on the roads and Autobahns leading to and from Frankfurt airport, the Kia proved to have a very comfortable ride..."

  • Revealed: our first proper look at the new Aston Martin DB11

When do we get it? We'll see the finished, un-stripy DB11 at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016, with first deliveries expected later this year.

What we say: "What can we tell you about the DB11? Not much. We do know that the new GT car will sport an entirely new chassis architecture, along with an Aston Martin-developed, brand-new 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine. Yes, that’s right, a turbocharged Aston Martin GT car. Though don’t worry, because – to our ears at least – it will sound good enough..."

  • Driven: Lexus’s RC200t, a turbocharged BMW 4-Series rival

When do we get it? Now

What we say: "It’s all about comfort and composure: its ride is plush, its responses are faithful to your inputs and it’s just plain stress-free to drive. The end product is a car that never feels alert or alive beneath you, so you’re unlikely to be goaded into driving it hard..."
