Can the new Corvette Z06 rev to 8,600rpm?

Not-so-cryptic teaser film showcases an 8,600rpm rev counter, so we’re guessing ‘yeah’

Published: 22 Oct 2021

“The all-new 2023 Corvette Z06 is a supercar unlike anything you’ve ever seen, or heard,” says Chevrolet, rather modestly, about the all-new 2023 Corvette Z06. Yep, we’ve skipped straight past 2022 and we’re into THE FUTURE.

A shiny, mid-engined future where Chevy V8s rev really quite high for Chevy V8s. Yes folks, the company behind your favourite blue-collar hero has not-so-subtly hinted that the engine in the middle of the incoming new 'C8' Corvette Z06 will rev to 8,600pm. That reveal is 26 Oct, where we’ll fully learn if it’s an all-new V8 – perhaps shared with the racing ‘Vette – or something else. Incidentally, if you want to hear what the very fabric of space-time being ripped apart sounds like, listen to old GT Pro motorsport Corvettes racing through the night at the Le Mans 24hrs.

Speaking of Le Mans, the trailer video details the lengths this new Z06 has travelled; quite literally from the States, and to the Nürburgring and Le Mans. Because any self-respecting mid-engined supercar just has to be good at these relatively obsure, hardly mentioned circuits.
