This is the very first production-spec Rivian R1T pickup

We first saw the Rivian R1T way back in November 2018, and it’d be fair to say that its modern looks and quad-motor powertrain (with a claimed 0-60mph time of 3.0 seconds) got our attention.

And now there’s good news, because the first production-ready R1T has rolled off Rivian’s all-new production line in the brilliantly-named Normal, Illinois. Hurrah!

Boss RJ Scaringe confirmed the news on Twitter (like all good EV startup bosses should do), saying: “After months of building pre-production vehicles, this morning our first customer vehicle drove off our production line in Normal! Our team's collective efforts have made this moment possible. Can't wait to get these into the hands of our customers!”

There’s no word on the spec of these launch edition R1Ts and no word as to when production of the R1S – its seven-seat SUV – might begin, although Rivian has previously Tweeted its official EPA range figures. The ‘Large Pack’ R1T is apparently good for 314 miles on the US test, whilst the same R1S manages 316 miles.

Back in 2018 Rivian promised three battery sizes – 180kWh (with a 400 mile range), 135kWh (300 mile range) and 105kWh (230 mile range).
