This Tesla Cybertruck ‘Cyberbeast’ just sold for $262,500
Sotheby’s Motorsport shifts range-topping electric truck for... more than double its price. Of course
This is a Tesla Cybertruck in ‘Cyberbeast’ trim. If you're unclear what any of that means, it's simple: a big, powerful, hard-to-get electric truck. The Cyberbeast is the toppiest, trimmiest trim of all the Cybertrucks that’ll be offered. And as befits such a heavyweight, a version was recently sold at auction for the heavyweight price of $262,500.
That’s… more than double what it costs direct from Tesla, with ‘standard’ prices kicking off at $99,900. Draw your own conclusions.
Sotheby’s Motorsport - surprisingly the motorsport division of RM Sotheby's - listed the range-topping Cybertruck without a reserve, and we’re told the bidding started at $75k “and swiftly reached the truck’s sticker price”, until it hit a figure normally reserved for old German sportscars.
Truth be told, it’d put a lot of those old German sportscars to the test, at least in terms of raw pace. The Cybertruck Cyberbeast – the version we drove late last year – comes complete with three electric motors (two at the back, one at the front), a whopping 123kWh battery and 845bhp.
Such force allows it to go from 0-60mph in 2.6s and run an 11-second quarter mile time. All this in a car that weighs… 3,100kg.
Sotheby’s Motorsport boss Colleen Cash said: “We often get asked whether Teslas can or are considered collectible cars. Our response has always been affirmative, and the overwhelming interest in this auction only reinforces our conviction.
“The global bidding for this polarising truck, a testament to its allure, was remarkable.”
