This special edition Mokka Electric Griffin is £7k cheaper than the normal car
Vauxhall shaves many thousands of pounds off its EV crossover, and we can't quite work out how...
Stop what you’re doing! Vauxhall has just released a limited edition version of its Mokka electric crossover, dubbed ‘Griffin’, which slashes the entry price of the line-up by over seven grand to £29,495. That’s a sizeable lump to put towards the new garden decking and shed.
Based on Vauxhall's 'Design' trim, the Griffin brings with it a black roof and tinted windows, plus the Mokka's usual colour palette options and 17in silver-finished alloys. Meanwhile the interior benefits from stuff like a rear-view camera and sensors. No skimping thus far.
Inside there are two seven-inch displays by way of the infotainment and digital instrument clusters, and other neat touches such as a heated steering wheel and front seats. Again, not what you'd expect from a cut price chef's special.
The safety suite is generously stacked from entry, too, and brings together various systems like lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition. No doubt those will be reassuring and annoying in equal measure.
As for the powertrain, the Griffin retains the Mokka's 134bhp electric motor and uses the same battery - the 50kWh lithium-ion pack found in the Corsa Electric and various other Stellantis spin-offs - as the standard car, resulting in an estimated 209-mile range.
It's not quite the 252 miles claimed by the Mokka Electric Long Range, but still you'd take the saving even if it meant stopping to charge a bit more, wouldn't you?
On which note, a recharge stop to 80 per cent should also take less than 30 minutes: enough time to sip a coffee and decide which of the garden centre gnomes could be re-homed on your new-look patio.
Vauxhall says the Mokka Electric Griffin is a limited edition vehicle, but won't say how limited. So if you want to jump on that £7k saving you'll need to leap onto the order book as soon as it opens on 17 April. Initial deliveries are scheduled for some point in June.
