Porsche has built another Macan-motored 536bhp electric speed boat, and it’s ruddy cool
Just 25 examples of the 850 Fantom will be made costing £472k each. Ready yer captain’s beret, sailor
Porsche has revealed its new ‘850 Fantom’ speedboat which (again) snatches the all-electric powertrain from its Macan Turbo SUV and features a closed foredeck and cabin design. Your new way to float about the French Riviera post-Monaco GP?
Built in collaboration with Austrian-based Frauscher Shipyard, the MacanBoat stretches 8.67 metres in length and 2.49 metres in width, so it should certainly be less of a faff to manoeuvre than most of the other bits docked up in the harbour. And quicker: you’ll squeeze up to 56mph from its 536bhp Macan-sourced permanent synchronous motor.
Porsche says its Z-Drive control unit is also housed within a ‘waterproof box’. Umm, we should hope it's waterproof if it's going to be, you know... going on water.
The Fantom also gets a 100kWh battery providing up to 62 miles of range if you’re coasting along at a more leisurely 25mph, with max DC charging speeds of up to 270kW.
There's seating for up to seven, with some of its key Look At Me features including a swimming platform, sunbeds and a folding sunshade. Customers will get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as standard too, controlled through a 12in infotainment screen, plus LED ambient lighting both in the cabin and beneath the hull.
It’s set to premiere this January at the Boot Düsseldorf event - the world’s largest indoor water sports fair - with each of the 25 build slots going for a basic price of €572,934 (£472,355.44). But it’s a Porsche, so you’ll likely double that amount after one look at the options list.
