The new electric Hummer will have a completely removable roof

GM continues to tease details of the bonkers 1,000bhp EV pickup

As you’ll well know, General Motors is planning to bring back the Hummer in 2021. This is huge news, not least because GMC (GM’s trucks, SUVs and commercial vehicles arm) has decided to eschew the petrol and diesel V8s that powered the iconic H1 and H2. The less said about the H3, the better. 

Yep, the Hummer is going all-electric. And it’ll now only be available as a pickup truck. Which will mean making them into hen do spec limo a bit harder, but open up the opportunities for filling the back with tarpaulin and water to make a rolling hot tub. Future Mother of the brides will love that.

GMC is making a pretty big fuss about the Hummer EV having ‘zero limits’ though – so it’s decided that 1,000bhp, 11,500lb ft of torque and a 0-60mph time of 3.0 seconds is completely necessary. 

Plus, we’re now just learning that the pickup will have removable roof panels. No, seriously – check out the image above. GMC says that removing four panels and the front T-bar creates a ‘unique open-air experience’.

An all-electric, 1,000bhp, convertible pickup truck? Yeah, we’d say that’s pretty unique...
