The Maserati TRIDENTE is a 600bhp powerboat with a shouty name but a silent powertrain

Maserati partners with Vita Power to create a 10.5m carbon fibre powerboat for 10 people

Published: 02 Jul 2024

It would seem that we are in an era of carmakers wanting to take to the water. In 2023 we saw all-electric boats from Polestar, BMW and Porsche, and now Maserati is getting in on the act too.

This is the Maserati TRIDENTE (their capital letters, not ours) – a luxury all-electric powerboat that’s 10.5m long and is apparently designed for ‘lake and coastal day cruising’. Lovely.

Although, apart from slapping that giant trident on the bow, we’re not actually sure how much involvement Maserati had in this thing. The carbon fibre body is built by Maine-based boatbuilder Hodgdon Yachts, while the 600bhp motor and giant 252kWh battery come from a marine technology company called Vita Power. At least Polestar used its own battery pack from the 2, BMW used six i3 batteries and Porsche deployed its electric Macan battery and motors.

Anyway, that powertrain allows the TRIDENTE to deliver a cruising speed of 25 knots and a top speed of 40 knots (around 46mph). Maserati also quotes a recharging time of under one hour. Impressive.

Apparently the boat can be “configured for dining or acceleration”, which is perhaps the best thing we’ve read in a press release all year. It can accommodate up to 10 people including the driver, and there’s a sundeck, a ladder for swimming, a shower and an enclosed cabin up front with a loo. How posh.

No word on price just yet, but we’re assuming it’ll cost a little more than the £185,610 needed for a new GranCabrio Folgore.
