Is the Lancia Stratos making a comeback as an EV?
This here teaser previews the reveal of the Lancia Concept in April… is the Stratos being revived before our eyes?
This is not a drill, folks: a few months on from discovering that Lancia is indeed back, we have now received our first look at a forthcoming concept car, straightforwardly named the Lancia Concept.
Set to be revealed on 15 April, all we have to go on for now is the two teaser images above, plus the renders of the new Lancia badge from last year.
In the first you can make out the round brake light - which Lancia says are inspired by the old Stratos - and in the second you can see what Lancia calls ‘an innovative circular roof’ which supposedly guarantees passengers a panoramic view wherever they’re sat. Right…
We can also see that the rear of the concept will follow the modernest of modern design trends (yep, brand lettering instead of a logo), while those horizontal lines on the tailgate are meant to invoke ‘the famous venetian-blind-inspired structure of the Lancia Beta HPE of the 1970s’.
“The Lancia Concept is the brand manifesto for the next ten years.” explains Luca Napolitano, CEO of the Lancia brand. “It is a 100 per cent electric concept car which represents the evolution of the Lancia Pu+Ra Zero, the three-dimensional sculpture presented last November during the Lancia Design Day.
“The Concept is the first vehicle of [Lancia’s] new era that includes features which will be present on future models in terms of design, sustainability, technology and electrification.”
Napolitano finished by saying: “I am certain that it will impress all Lancia brand lovers around the world.”
So, world, are you excited about a Lancia built around sustainability and not, say, brazenly drifting around a gravel rally stage? If not, you could always go down the restomod route…
