The Jaguar I-Pace is World Car of the Year
Top Gear's electric car of the year adds to its trophy cabinet
Mere weeks after winning European Car of the Year, the Jaguar I-Pace has added the World Car of the Year trophy to its growing collection of silverware.
The 86 judges from 24 different countries also voted the I-Pace winner of the Design and Green Car awards, making it the first car to win three categories in the same year. It’s also only the second EV to win the main award, after the Nissan Leaf in 2011. Last year’s overall winner was the Volvo XC60, with the Jaguar F-Pace and Mazda MX-5 respectiely victorious in 2017 and 2016.
Designer Ian Callum accepted the awards at this week’s New York motor show, where the McLaren 720S was crowned World Performance Car, the Suzuki Jimny World Urban Car and and the Audi A7 World Luxury Car.
Jag says 11,000 I-Paces have been delivered so far in more than 60 countries. In the UK it costs from a little under £61,000. For that you get a 90kWh lithium-ion battery and 292 miles of range if you drive it really, really carefully.
We like it - so much, in fact, that last year we gave it an award too. You can read about why the Jaguar I-Pace is TG Mag’s EV of the Year by clicking right here.
