The ID. XTREME is a rally-spec ID.4 concept with 377bhp

Whisper it, but this could apparently make production if demand is strong enough

Published: 12 Sep 2022

Fancy some silent rally action? Well you’re in luck, because Volkswagen has just unveiled this – the ID. XTREME concept based on the ID.4 GTX.

We never thought we’d say this about an ID.4, but it actually looks... good. Although give anything a 3D-printed widebody kit, rally suspension and off-road wheels and it’ll look... good. Nice roof rack and lightbar too.

Built by Volkswagen’s development department using an old prototype ID.4 GTX, the XTREME isn’t just a styling exercise either. The rear of the two motors has been upgraded so that total output rises from 295bhp to a very healthy 377bhp.

It has been unveiled at something called ID. Treffen in Locarno – an event organised by the ID. Drivers Club and designed to replicate the GTI meet at Wörthersee

Oh, and the XTREME might not even remain a concept forever. “The ID. XTREME is made by enthusiasts at Volkswagen for ID. enthusiasts here in Locarno,” said Silke Bagschik, the boss of VW’s MEB Product Line said. “We are really eager to find out how the fans of electromobility react to the vehicle. Based on the feedback from our community, we will decide how to proceed with the project.”

Exciting times. Reckon we’ll see some of these bits on the ID.4 configurator soon?
