Formula E unveils two-tier front wing for next season

The electric-powered grid will adopt the new design in 2016-17

Published: 29 Jul 2016

Formula E cars will take on a brand new look when the sport’s third season gets underway in Hong Kong in October, owing to a restyled front wing which features two tiers connected by the wheel arches.

The electric racing series is keen to distance itself from Formula One, and the change in appearance is another measure designed to make it stand out from the traditional pinnacle of motorsport.

“Formula E aims to be different, and this new front wing creates a look that’s different to every other car out there,” says CEO Alejandro Agag. “I think this is a great addition to our car and further emphasises the fact that this is a modern, forward-thinking championship that is taking a completely different approach to all other racing series.”

Reigning champion Sebastien Buemi agreed, stating: “I like the look of the new front wing - it looks a little bit more futuristic, and from inside the car you can see the top part of the wing, so visually for the driver there is also a small change.

“We want Formula E to look different and be different, and the new wing is a good way of showing that.”
