The first Hummer EV has sold for $2.5m at auction
GMC auctioned off VIN 001 for charity, and someone REALLY wanted to beat the queue
As you may or may not know, it’s fairly commonplace in America for the very first example of a new car to be auctioned off for charity. That’s exactly what happened over the weekend with the new GMC Hummer EV, and VIN 001 ended up fetching (wait for it) … $2.5m.
Two point five million dollars.
Clearly someone was rather desperate to beat the queue for the reborn Hummer. VIN 001 is a full production car in the Edition 1 launch spec – the rest of which won’t be built until later this year, and all of which are reserved anyway.
In addition to the three-motor 1,000bhp electric powertrain, the generous new owner is getting the ‘Extreme Off-Road Package’ that includes 18-inch wheels, 35-inch tyres, underbody armour and underbody cameras. There’s also adaptive air suspension, 350kW charging, a four-wheel steer system with a diagonal crab walk function (very cool) and the latest version of Super Cruise. Oh, and it’s a Hummer that’ll do 0-60mph in around 3.0 seconds. Crikey.
