The Electric Moke Californian is now available in the US… for $41,900
Moke International announces prices for its 50mph remake of the classic Californian
Back in 2021 we learned that Moke International had created an all-electric version of its reborn Mini Moke. In fact, the electric iteration was to replace the standard four-cylinder, making the brand an EV-only manufacturer.
And now, thanks to the 2015 Low Volume Motor Vehicles Manufacturers Act, the Moke is heading back to the USA.
Yep, 325 examples of this Electric Moke Californian will be imported into the United States each year, with a reimagination of the ‘Californian’ badge that was first used in the 1970s.
Moke International says that this will be the first official Moke to be sold in the US since 1982. Oh, and thanks to a 44bhp motor and a top speed of 50mph, it’ll be road-legal too. It might not reach 60mph, but Moke does quote a 0-34mph time of just 4.3 seconds.
Range is up to 80 miles, which is apparently enough to "cruise Route 101 down to Malibu Beach from Santa Barbara", while a full charge takes four hours on a US Type 1 charger.
But hang on, because in the UK prices started at £29,150 before tax. However, in the US you’ll have to fork out $41,900 for the pleasure of owning a Moke. Ouch.
