The Leapmotor B05 is an Astra-sized electric hatch for Europe

And it’s yellow! Stellantis-backed Chinese firm wants to take on the VW ID.3

In a move that should surprise precisely zero people, Leapmotor – the Chinese carmaker that teamed up with Stellantis to bring its cars to Europe – is about to bring more cars to Europe! Who’d have thought it?

The most interesting of the two new cars confirmed is the B05, which is the exceedingly yellow hatchback that you see above. We’re told that it’s “designed for the new generations of urban trendsetters”, but all we really know about it so far is that it’ll be 4.4m long and just under 1.9m wide.

Pretty similar size to the Vauxhall Astra Electric, Peugeot e-308 and DS No4 E-Tense then, although it’s unlikely to share those Stellantis underpinnings. Could well be cheaper than all of them, though.

We do also know that it’ll get frameless doors and 19in wheels, with Leapmotor describing the styling as both futuristic and grounded in urban style. We think it looks rather good. Is it just the yellow paint, or is there a hint of old Seat Leon Cupra in there somewhere?

Anyway, before the B05 lands, Leapmotor will introduce the B10. This is a closely related crossover that’ll apparently open for orders in the UK shortly, with first deliveries taking place this winter.

It will be “one of the most competitively positioned electric SUVs in its class” and will feature a single electric motor making 215bhp and 177lb ft of torque for a 0-62mph time of 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 106mph. There’ll be two battery options too, with a 56kWh pack providing 224 miles of range and a 67kWh unit upping that to 270 miles. Useful 168kW rapid charging ability, too.

Inside we’re told that there are 22 different storage compartments and a 14.6in “floating touchscreen”. We’d bank on similar specs for the hatch, and that’s the one you’d want, no?
