The Drako Dragon will apparently be “the new pinnacle of electric vehicle performance”

Remember the Drako GTE? It’s about to be given a major update and a much better name…

Published: 10 Nov 2021

Back in 2019, San Jose-based company Drako announced a quad-motor, four-seat EV with 1,200bhp and “cornering precision unlike any other supercar on the road today”. It said that 25 examples of the so-called GTE would be built, with each one costing $1.25m a pop.

It’s now late 2021 and testing is apparently still ongoing with deliveries meant to start soon. All of that hasn’t stopped Drako from working on an updated version of the GTE. It’ll be called the Drako Dragon (great name) and will be fully unveiled in January 2022. Alarmingly, Drako reckons it’ll get a “substantial increase in torque” over the GTE – a car which already claims 6,500lb ft. Sure, why not.

There’ll be upgraded inverters for the Dragon too, plus new cell technology in the battery and an upgraded cooling system. The GTE’s four-way adjustable suspension will be swapped out for a five-way adjustable setup, the brakes will be bigger and lighter and there’ll be new lightweight wheels. There’s no word on what all of this will do to the price, but presumably that doesn’t matter to the folk that Drako is targeting.

We still haven’t actually seen the GTE’s interior in full, but the Dragon will seemingly get an updated layout with plusher materials, a new infotainment setup and new instrument panels. We’ll reserve (some) judgement until we see it next year.
