Chevy’s latest EV is called the Equinox

Medium-sized SUV is US-bound late in 2023, priced around $30,000

Published: 06 Jan 2022

This, ladies and gents, is the latest electric vehicle announced by Chevrolet. Taking on the Equinox badge, it follows in the tyre tracks of the electric Bolt hatchback and EUVs, and will precede the freshly revealed Silverado pick-up truck.

It’ll land in the US in the autumn, sorry, fall of 2023, priced from around $30,000. That’s before taxes and dealer fees, by the way.

“The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as the second-highest selling brand nameplate,” says Steve Hill, Chevrolet’s vice president. “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest volume segment proves Chevy is going to make EVs available to everyone.”

The Equinox will be sold in both fleet and retail guises under LT and RS trims, while the car itself is based on General Motors’ Ultium Platform. Think Volkswagen’s MEB architecture, but American. Maybe it has cheese on top.

There are no performance details to hand for now, although the 250-mile range of the Bolt EUV - which is based on the group’s previous-generation platform - suggests it’ll be no Citroen Ami in the range stakes.

2023 is shaping up to be a big year for Chevrolet’s electric line-up: the Blazer SUV is set to arrive before the Equinox in the spring of next year.

Are we likely to see either of them this side of the pond? Given that Chevrolet’s UK offering currently consists of just the Corvette Stingray, you’d think it was unlikely. But they made a leccy Camaro a couple of years back, so anything’s possible right?
