Billy Monger will race in the Extreme E series

The young Brit joins an increasingly impressive list of talent

Published: 19 Nov 2019

Billy Monger’s incredible comeback will continue in 2021 as he takes part in the inaugural season of the all-electric off-road series Extreme E.

The remarkable 20-year-old underwent a double leg amputation after a British Formula 4 crash in back 2017, but he has since been making his way up the single-seater championships in specially adapted cars. Extreme E, the off-road cousin of Formula E, will represent a huge change in scenery for the talented youngster, though. We can’t wait to see him compete.

Joining Monger in the second wave of inductees to the Extreme E Drivers’ Programme is ex-F1 and Formula E driver Karun Chandhok, rally raid biker and the first ever Brit to win the Dakar Rally Sam Sunderland and Formula E racers Jérôme d'Ambrosio, Daniel Abt and Oliver Turvey, as well as a whole host of other talent.

Extreme E will kick off its five-round season in February 2021. Four locations have been announced so far, all of which have already seen the effects of climate change first hand. Things will kick off in Kangerlussuaq in Greenland, before everything travels on the sport’s mobile paddock – the former Royal Mail ship St Helena – to the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil, a desert round in Saudi Arabia and the Himalayas in Nepal.

This second batch of drivers join names such as Sebastian Ogier, Jamie Chadwick, Lucas di Grassi, Nelson Piquet Jr, Andre Lotterer, Bruno Senna and Sacha Prost in the Drivers’ Programme.

Getting excited yet, Internet?
