Audi has signed Ken Block to work on electric motorsport

What Block will actually get up to with Audi is still a mystery. A Dakar drive in 2022, anyone?

Published: 22 Sep 2021

Big news in the world of motorsports and wild, viral stunt-driving videos – Ken Block has signed a deal with Audi.

Yep, the 53-year-old Gymkhana star has gone German, although he’ll be working on “exclusive joint projects in the field of electric mobility", says Audi. What that actually means, we’ll have to wait to find out.

“Audi is the brand that ignited my passion for motorsport,” says Block referring to the glorious quattro S1 from his teenage years.

“I am extremely excited to start this new chapter. Together, we will develop innovative projects and push the boundaries of electric mobility.” Hmmm, no more clarity there, then.

Perhaps we can draw some kind of conclusion from the timing of another Audi press release – it chose today not only to announce the Block news, but to show off a load of pictures of its RS Q e-tron Dakar contender testing in Morocco. Looks good, no?

Block has history with EVs in the Dakar, having driven Extreme E’s Odyssey 21 racer on the final stage of the 2020 event.

Will he compete for Audi in 2022?
