All petrol and diesel Genesis models are being killed in the UK
Once all of the ICE-only stock is sold, Genesis will focus on its current EV sales before introducing new hybrids
“The market and the customers now want hybrid more than EV, so we really want to bring Genesis hybrid into the market as soon as possible,” said Genesis boss Mike Song at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year.
Sounds like that is still the plan, but those hybrids better hurry up because Genesis Motor UK has just announced its plan to become a “fully electrified brand within 2025”. So it’ll continue to sell the all-electric GV60 and EV versions of the G80 and GV70 for the foreseeable, but it does mean the petrol and diesel-powered G70 saloon, G70 Shooting Brake (pictured above), GV70 and GV80 models have all been canned. Ouch.
All of those cars are now only available from stock, and once they’re sold out you’ll only be able to have a Genesis if it includes some form of electric power. “The future Genesis range will be enhanced with hybrid technology,” we’re told, although there’s no word on what those hybrid systems will be, nor when they’ll actually arrive.
Of course, Genesis has announced the GMR-001 Hypercar as it prepares for a WEC entry in 2026, so perhaps we’ll get a road-going version of the V8-engined hybrid endurance racer and a sensible plug-in hybrid G70 saloon at the same time. We can only speculate.
Genesis has confirmed the hot GV60 Magma is set to enter production in 2025, and we’re promised an “ambitious and long-term plan” for the UK and Europe that will see it introduce those hybrids and new all-electric models. We’re also told that it’ll “enter new segments” and that it’ll expand into new markets in Europe.
“Our commitment is to a rich and varied portfolio which includes premium electrified and high-performance drivetrains alongside exciting new segment entries, all tailored for our European customers,” said Jonny Miller, brand director for Genesis Motor UK. “With these new products we will see a focused market expansion beyond our current UK, German and Swiss businesses.”
