Chrysler 300 news - Detroit 2011: Chrysler 300 - 2011

Published: 11 Jan 2011

Chrysler's old 300 almost single-handedly resurrected the great American sedan. Now there's an all-new one, and although Chrysler has been through the mill over the past few years, it looks like this one pulls victory from the jaws of defeat.

The new sheet metal is a bit less cartoonish than before. It adds some curves to the waistline and windows, plus jewellery in the lights. But it's still obviously a 300. And even if the grille has been made more heart-shaped, Chrysler recognises some owners loved the old fake-Bentley look and dealers will sell that old-skool square grille as a bolt-on for the new car.

Inside it's got a giant 8.4-inch multimedia screen, and vastly better build quality. That's to say, the dash is no longer a pile of egg-boxes. Chrysler is also making bold claims about the ride and refinement now, but we'll will have to wait to see if that pans out.

The V6 engine is all-new, up to almost 300bhp, and there's a 363bhp 5.7-litre V8 Hemi too. A sophisticated AWD system is optional.

The 300 will go on sale in the UK from spring 2012 with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel. Thoughts, loyal Top Gearers?
