This is Cadillac’s first fully electric car

“It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility,” explains Cadillac president Steve Carlisle. ‘It’, being Caddy’s first ever electric car.

It’ll take the form of a crossover because of course it will, and it will sit on GM’s future electric car platform. We’re told this platform will feature battery and drive units designed for “maximum usability” throughout GM cars across different countries.

More importantly, the platform promises flexibility: front, rear or all-wheel drive, and varying power outputs dependant on the car and customer.

We're still in very early days though. There are no details about said drive or power output. Heck, it hasn't even got a name either. But, other body styles will follow this crossover, and in short succession too – aforementioned flexibility means each future EV will have a short design and development time.

“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” Carlisle said. Reckon they’re onto something with this ‘EV crossover’ malarkey? This, an e-tron or an I-Pace?
