Could the Toyota GR86 be on the verge of a comeback?
It sold out in just 90 minutes last year, now the UK might be getting a second batch of the sub £30k sports car…
An hour and a half is all it took for Toyota to sell out its entire UK allocation of the (most excellent) GR86 last year, leaving us to believe that the Japanese sports car was gone for good mere minutes after it had landed on these shores.
Only now we discover that it might not be, actually. Toyota has confirmed to TG that it has emailed everyone on its GR86 waiting list to tentatively ask if more cars became available, would they still be interested in buying one?
Which kinda suggests that… there are more cars available. Which is most excellent news. And given the demand for the first batch, you’d imagine they’d sell the second wave pretty quickly too.
That’s all the info we have to go on for now, which leaves us with many questions. Questions like ‘how many more examples will there be?’ (Toyota never actually specified the volume of the initial run) and ‘how much will it cost this time?’
Last year the GR86 cost upwards of £29,995, but that was before inflation had really kicked in. So you’d think it’d be bold and/or financially ruinous if Toyota stuck to the initial price.
Still, the chances of you stumbling upon a GR86 in the classifieds one day has just gone up a notch. And that would be… most excellent indeed.
