Volkswagen unveils its Black Cab

Volkswagen seems to have misplaced the memo on minicabbing. Specifically the part where more than two people can be ferried around.

This, Top Gear fans, is the Volkswagen Taxi Concept, the latest in a series of world taxis based on the Up! concept. And it seats two (plus driver).

It measures 3,730 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width and is shorter than the VW Fox, the smallest Vee-Dub you can buy.

Still, it features an electric motor fed by two lithium-ion batteries producing 115bhp, and a top speed of 74mph. VW estimates a range of 186 miles and an 80 per cent charge taking just one hour, which should be plenty to get you across the river at this time of night, guvnor'.
