Cyrulewshi C3R concept news - Jet in shark's clothing - 2008
As you might have guessed by Jeremy’s enthusiastic powersliding around America last night, Top Gear is rather keen on the new Corvette. Particularly the 640bhp ZR1, but even the only-a-bit-more-sensible 430bhp C6.
But sometimes we can’t help wishing it had just a bit more visual drama, a bit more of the ‘Mako Shark’ styling of the Corvettes of old. A bit more Stingray.
Which is why we’re rather keen on this, the C3R concept from designer Christian Cyrulewski. OK, it’s only a rendering at this stage, but Cyrulewski says that the C3R aims to bring a dose of third-generation retro Corvette to the C6’s underpinnings.
Pretty successfully, we reckon. OK, that pointy nose is unlikely pass many pedestrian protection tests, and pop-up headlights are sooo 1980s, but the long-nosed, high-shouldered thing is still totally doing it for us.
Even better, Cyrulewski is planning to build a prototype C3R next year and, if enough punters show interest, could produce a kit-car edition to transform your common-and-garden C6 into something a bit more retro.
And how about an even hotter version powered by the seven-litre V8 from the Z06? With side-pipes? Yes please, Mr Cyrulewski. Yes please.
