300bhp Citroen concept heads to China
Good news! Citroen has built a 300bhp range-topping four-door sports saloon.
Bad news! We're not getting it in the UK. And it's only a concept.
It's called the DS 5LS R, and is a racing, sporting version of the standard, Chinese-market-only long-wheebase DS 5 saloon, but with a few very important additions.
The first of which includes Citroen's WRC-spec 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, here making that headline 300bhp and 295lb ft of torque (as much torque as the previous generation, V8-engined BMW M3). A nice set of figures, but unfortunately we're not told what they translate to in terms of performance, so can only guess. 0-62mph? Erm, quickly.
The chassis has been lowered by 15mm over the production version, and Citroen has increased the width of the front track to help deal with the increased load. There is a sequential gearbox on board, complete with the paddles on the steering wheel and extensive use of carbon fibre - including inside for the trim.
There is some leather and Alcantara inside too - the DS ‘watchstrap' upholstery - some ‘R' signatures dotted around the car and 20in alloy wheels.
Have a click through the pictures and tell us, a) should Citroen actually build this car for real, and b) would you buy it over here in the UK?
