Someone’s built a £500k, carbon-fibre bodied Porsche 911

Nice, huh? This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Ateliers Diva Targa: a rebodied, classic Porsche 911 (the cool 964 one) remodelled into a racecar for the road.

At least, that’s what Crubilé Sport, French Porsche specialists, have imagined it to be. The idea was thus – build something as modern as a 991-generation 911, that offers nutjob thrills like the Porsche 935 racer, wrapped up in one of the 911’s coolest ever silhouettes.

All for one and one for all, then. Crubilé takes either a two or four-wheel-drive 964, and strips the thing down to its bare shell, where it’s treated “thoroughly”. Once that’s all clean and shiny and new, a brand new hand-built body is fitted, widened over the original’s by 3cm.

It’s built out of prepreg carbon fibre – the same stuff LMP1 and F1 cars are made of – and it’s widened by 3cm because it has to accommodate newer tech underneath. Which includes a brand new 4.2-litre flat-six kicking out 400bhp. “It is essentially a racing-spec engine for the road and so offers sensational performance,” we’re reliably informed.

Though no performance figures are available, consider that the Diva Targa weighs just 1,110kg (largely thanks to that CF body), meaning acceleration should be sprightly.

Naturally, there’s any measure of interior customisation, and Crubilé says each individual car will be designed entirely to the customer’s whims. However, we do know the dash takes cues from early 911s, and there’s a special audio system that should keep you suitably entertained. Assuming the noise of a 4.2-litre flat six doesn’t…

Only 25 Targas will be built, alongside 25 Coupes and 25 Safari models. Each car will take 12 months to build, and will cost between £400,000 and £500,000. The Diva Targa will make its UK debut at the upcoming Salon Prive concours show in September.
