Got half a million quid spare? Buy this Diablo GT

There are cheaper used cars, but none scarier. Meet the mad Lamborghini Diablo GT

Published: 06 Jan 2016

If you’ve some particularly generous aunts, you might have enough Christmas money still knocking around to buy a nice new car. If that is the case, may we point you towards TopCar and its wondrous Diablo?

It is, however, no ordinary Diablo. This is a Lamborghini Diablo GT, the maddest and most hardcore of all the road-going Diablos. No small claim.

You can thank a larger 6-litre V12 engine, rear-wheel drive (standard Diablos were AWD) and a superbly aggressive body kit for that.

There was also much weight saving. The majority of that body kit is crafted from carbonfibre, not least the terrifying fixed rear wing and a rear diffuser that replaced an actual bumper completely. Good job you could have a reversing camera to avoid any terrifyingly expensive parking prangs.

Oh, and there’s an air scoop on the roof. Everything is better with an air scoop on the roof.

The GT may have taken its influence from the world of racing, but you could still enjoy a degree of luxury inside, and TopCar’s example has the carbon sports seats trimmed in lurid yellow leather, while there’s climate control and even some airbags.

That’s reassuring, perhaps, when you consider there’s 575bhp and 465lb ft headed to the rear axle, via a five-speed manual gearbox presumably burly in its operation.

Acceleration is predictably hasty: 0-60mph takes 4.4 seconds, while you’ll hit 100mph in 8.7. Providing your gear changes are good, of course…

If you’re feeling plucky enough, then you’ll be wanting to know how much this Diablo GT - number 73 of a mere 80-strong run - is up for. That figure is 720,000 euros, or around £530,000. Um, yeah. You can have an Aventador SV and a very generously optioned Huracan for that.
