Gallery: 1000 Ferraris hit California

  • Ferrari is celebrating 60 years in America. Rather than donning elasticated party hats, covering a cake in melted cheese or concocting some kind of abhorrent punch, it's marked the occasion in a rather more appropriate manner: lining up a load of lovely old supercars in Beverly Hills.

No less than a thousand of the things, in fact, setting a new record. They range from the practically priceless 250 GTO to the latest 458 Speciale A, with the Miami Vice Testarossa in the mix for good measure. Click forth to browse our gallery of highlights.

  • The event served as the official debut for the new Ferrari F60 America (precisely no prizes for guessing how they came up with that name). Its slightly garish, roofless styling looks right at home on the streets of Beverly Hills. How well it will integrate elsewhere remains to be seen...

  • Based on the F12 Berlinetta, it uses the same 730bhp V12 engine and will no doubt dramatically reshape your quiff as it hurls itself to 62mph in 3.1 seconds.

It's certainly a lot bolder than the F12, but which would you save a space in your dream garage for?

  • Even small children can't quite comprehend how red Ferrari has made the interior. Only the driver's quarters have been given the scarlet treatment, though. Proof that you can exploit Ferrari's personalisation options, if nothing else...

  • A glorious example of the Ferrari 275 GTB/4, this one purchased by Steve McQueen. Here it sits a little incongruously beside a more modern Mondial convertible.

  • Think blowing a million quid on a LaFerrari buys you some exclusivity? Think again. Here two of the blighters line up alongside their iconic forebears - the 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo.

  • What's the collective noun for mid-engined V8 Ferraris? We're going for ‘bellow'. Here a pair of classic 308s lead a bellow of V8s. (Sounds good, doesn't it?)

  • This is the original Ferrari California. The new one may have some tricksy turbocharging and a clever folding metal roof, but it can't really hold a candle to its namesake when it comes to downright prettiness.

  • How to make Gucci Beverly Hills resemble Poundland (other £1 stores are available): park a multi-million quid Ferrari 250 GTO in front of it. Here it lines up beside some of its classic racing cousins.

  • You can say what you like about Ferrari, it knows how to be subtle and understated when it comes to celebrating birthdays. Oh wait... No. The opposite of that.

  • America's first example of the Speciale spider, Ferrari's new 458 Aperta, lies in the background. Drool-covered sidewalks just out of shot.

  • A street full of Ferraris? No doubt about it, this is currently the best street... In the world.
