The best pics from 2018's Villa d'Este Concours
Forget the Monaco GP - Villa d'Este is where the glam is
While the motoring world’s attention was focussed squarely on the Monaco GP, something altogether more glamorous – yes, more glamorous even than the Monaco GP – was going on in Italy last weekend.
The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este is a gathering of the world’s finest cars, which takes place every year at Grand Hotel Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como. 50 classics – all of them gorgeous – compete in eight categories, and for an outright ‘Best in Show’ trophy (this year won by a rather special 1958 Ferrari 335).
It’s become such a big thing in the last few years that manufacturers have started rocking up with special concepts for the show’s ‘Design Award for Concepts and Prototypes’. This year’s winner, though it’s neither of those things, was the Ferrari SP38, but we’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the thing that occupies the first few slides of this gallery.
It’s called the Genesis Essentia. You might remember it from the New York Motor Show, where it was launched with much fanfare. Read all about it by clicking on these words. But not before you’ve skimmed through the gallery.
