This is the best noise you’ll hear today

Published: 22 Dec 2014

Remember the P4/5 Competizione built by James Glickenhaus? Here's the successor, the SCG 003, and after listening to it on track, one thing is immediately clear: it sounds excellent.

The SCG 003 is Jim's new pet project. It's an idea he had to take road cars back to the whole ‘less is really more' philosophy; he'll present the car at Geneva next year, and take it racing at the Nürburgring later on in 2015.

Underneath it'll be a ‘specific chassis' with a Honda twin-turbo V6 engine, with the idea to bring ‘LMP1 design to GT cars'. Paolo Catone, ‘a well-known race engineer', will lead the Aero team.

"Now that I have seen the final design, chassis and mechanical development," said Jim in a statement earlier this year, "I am very excited and happy that we will be exploring new ideas."

And now that Top Gear has heard a development racing prototype driven by Nicola Larini around a track, we are also very excited. Road cars will follow in due course. For now, turn it up, have a listen, and then stay tuned for more on the SCG 003...
