Gallery: Goodwood Revival 2014

Published: 17 Sep 2014

Fans of all things tweed - bad news. You've missed the world's biggest gathering of like-minded jacket fanatics.

We jest, of course, but last weekend saw the really rather excellent Goodwood Revival. Held every year at the storied Goodwood Motor Circuit, the Revival is home to literally all the tweed. And a bit of racing.

Ah yes, the racing. The Revival celebrates British motorsport from the 1940s through to the ‘60s, and offers up the chance to see extremely rare, extremely cool motors going wheel to wheel. Nothing gets your blood flowing quite like racing a £12 million Ferrari around the old circuit.

The racing is typically spectacular. Sure, some drivers come off a bit timid, but most seem to possess a genuine hunger to cross the line first, irrespective of whether the car they're driving is worth £10,000 or £10m.

This year saw a number of motoring milestones to celebrate, too; Jackie Stewart's F3 test drive from 1964, the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar D-Type and of course, the 60th anniversary of the rather delightful Maserati 250F, beloved of one Juan Manuel Fangio. Throw in a pair of Lancaster bombers escorted by Spitfires, and you have an excellent event.

At its core, the Revival may be a weekend of historic motor racing. But if you've ever been, you'll know it's far, far more. Spectators are encouraged to dress in period costume and as you meander around the paddock, you'll undoubtedly encounter fantastically weird displays of Sixties verve.
